I’ve been telling you what a busy month March is for us, so I’m going to continue on that theme with something we haven’t discussed yet – our free Developmental Screenings for children.
The United Way partially funds the Developmental Screenings through our Positive Results for Kids pediatric therapy program. Through their funding, we are able to provide these screenings FREE of charge for parents and children birth to five years of age in our community. There, literally, is no catch when we tell you it’s FREE. You sign your child up, bring them in to get evaluated by licensed therapists to see if your child is developing appropriately for their age, to get information vitally important to your child’s development and walk out with a piece of mind that parents would pay high dollar for!
If you’re a first-time parent or even if you have multiple children and one isn’t doing the things the others did at their age, you question. You may not seek out a doctor. You may not even tell anyone you’re having concerns. But, you watch in silence questioning if everything is alright, and even your own abilities as a parent. Stop! Let us help you! The therapists doing the screenings will give you direction, validation, and support. They let you know that everything is going to be OK, and we will be with you every step of the way. You are not alone. That’s worth the price of admission – if there were one, but this is FREE!
Over the course of an hour assessment, therapists screen fine motor skills, gross motor skills, cognitive skills, vision, language skills, self-help skills and social skills. These early childhood interventions can help them achieve developmental milestones early in their growth. Positive Results for Kids serves Howard, Miami and surrounding counties – convenient locations for you to choose from! Whether we are talking occupational therapy, physical therapy, developmental therapy, speech/language therapy – we are here for all of your child’s developmental needs. We are also a First Steps provider, working with children ages birth to three in their home and natural environments. We also work with local pediatricians in order to set up evaluations for physical and occupational therapy services, as well.
We really do try to make the process as seamless as possible. We know you have enough on your plates, and running through your minds.
Our next developmental screening is Wednesday, March 22. To sign up, call Karen Walck at 765-454-5340. There are a limited number of spots available, so don’t wait! If you can’t make it this month, but want to get on the schedule for later in the year, our last two Developmental Screenings will be held on August 30 and November 29. It’s not too early to call and get on the schedule!
